This is my latest stab at an image I've made in various forms for more than 30 years. It's based on a scene from an old "B" movie I saw as a kid called "Killers From Space." In the movie, the protagonist is kidnapped by aliens who temporarily remove his heart and suspend it above his chest. I always enjoyed the juxtaposition of the deadpan "expression" on the guy's face (lit in an "expressionist" style) and the idea of "expression" in art - literally pouring your heart out!
The image here is based on a photo of character actor Rondo Hatton from yet another old "B" movie, "House of Horrors", and a photo of a toy heart I took a long time ago.
